North’s Tempe Martinez turned in a strong performance at the 2026 Vantage Lady Viking Invitational at Akron North on Sunday.

Martinez finished second at 115 pounds.

“I was very satisfied with my tournament placement today,” Martinez said. “I was seeded fourth, came out placing second. I had some good competition this weekend.”

Martinez recorded three first-period pins to advance to the championship bout. She worked to maintain her movement to set up her best shot attempts.

In the championship match, John Hay’s Cha Carter pinned Martinez in 5:43.

“I went in knowing it would be a tough match, she's a great wrestler,” Martinez said. “I took a couple shots, didn't finish them, and got myself in some bad situations. I plan to work on that this week before our next tournament.”
