North’s boys’ basketball team is back on track following Saturday’s 69-42 nonconference win at Harvey.

With the win, the Rangers snapped a nine-game skid and closed out the regular season with an 8-14 record.

“It’s good to get one,” said North coach Nick Mayer. “It’s good for the guys; they’ve been working hard. We had a couple of close ones, so it’s good for the guys to see their hard work pay off.”

Nate Tadiello sparked the Rangers with nine first-quarter points and he finished with 12 in the first half as the Rangers took a 29-19 lead into the break.

Nate Sagendorph took the baton from there and scored 11 points in the third, helping the Rangers to maintain a comfortable lead.

“It felt really good finally pulling out with the win,” Sagendorph said. “We played a great team game and good things came out of it. We were moving the ball great at the start of the second half and shots were falling. A big help from my bigs getting rebounds and finding me down the court.”

North outscored the Red Raiders in the third, 23-13, and closed out the game on a 17-10 run.

Tadiello finished with a game-high 24 points and Sagendorph also scored in double figures with 16. Mat Sebring contributed to the win with eight points, Bralon Rolf added six, Brady Trem and Brand Bambrick both scored four, Dino Capra pitched in with three, and Demani Savoury and Noel Gartner both finished with two points.

“We talked about how we wanted to get to the paint and how that would open up great shots for us on the outside, and that’s what we started doing,” Mayer said. “In the third, Harvey started adjusting to that and really started packing it in and doubling, so we were able to kick it out for some threes and got some easy transition points off of our defense.”

The Rangers now have over a week to prepare for their postseason opener at home against Rhodes on Feb. 25.

“This win definitely gave us the confidence to work hard throughout the week and try to pull through with the win against Rhodes,” Sagendorph said.
